Join 210 Live in Highwood for an evening of magic with internationally acclaimed cellist, multilingual vocalist and composer Ian Maksin during the short break in his world tour. Having recently sold out such venues as City Winery and Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, this will be Maksin's debut performance at 210 Live!
Joined by Romanian guitar virtuoso Gabriel Datcu, Maksin will share some of his latest repertoire additions: originals infused with flavors of Russian, Balkan, Middle Eastern and Latin-American music, his own renditions of folk music from different corners of the world in many languages and well as jazz favorites from Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, John Coltrane and more!
Since the release of his latest album Zaria one year ago, Maksin has nearly tripled his repertoire of original and folk music from different corners of the world: from East Siberian shamanic chants to Kurdish folk songs, from rugged rhythms of the Balkan Mountains to Afro-Cuban clave, love songs in 15 languages so far and learning more - everything melts into a unique fusion through Ian Maksin's magical cello.
Ian Maksin has gained international recognition for his beautiful tone, his own unique, innovative style of playing the instrument and for taking the cello well outside its conventional role. Although still very active as a classical artist, Ian Maksin's latest focus has shifted towards blending many styles together. As a guest artist, he has performed and recorded with such artists as Andrea Bocelli, P. Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan and Barry Gibb. He has also opened performances for Sting and his guitarist Dominic Miller.
